Do you carry a side arm when.........

I've been looking for a new gun to carry scouting and well up Maine at my camp I went to the Presque Isle gun show and saw a pretty good gun , I believe it was called the Judge it shots both .410 and .045 nice looking revolver pretty light , think it has enough killing power to stop a Bobcat ,Bear, Coyote if loaded with .045's ?

Turbo_tech,
The little 410 loaded with slugs or 00 buck has about the stopping power of a 44 mag give or take. Same muzzle energy anyway.

I'm from Kalifornia so enlighten me. What's a moose bear? It sounds really scary!! Fangs, claws AND antlers? Yipe! We have something worse here though. It's called a Pelosi! It's mean, ugly, taxes your booze and smokes and renders your guns useless! Big smile

The Judge

I thought the same thing but, The 410 BuckShot out the Judge Doesn't Preform Well At all. Doesn't pattern and its not accurate. Your better off getting a straight 45

44 Is a hand cannon. I don't know where you moved to but a 22 will scare about anything away. When I'm scouting I carry my bolt action 22 rifle but I never go in the woods without a side arm. Usually my off duty 9mm. My father was attacked by a rabid porcupine while setting up a stand. He blew it out of the tree with a keltec 32 that he always has in his pocket because its small and light weight

Depends what part of the country your in.... a .44 Magnum is best when in large preditor woods where a .22 cal rifle won't do nothing but make them laugh at you.

Depending on my mood, I carry a .44 Mag or a my .45 Auto as I got a greater fear of man than I do critters.

The snap of the shot from anything will scare most predators away but I feel comfortable will a rifle and I know for a fact a well placed shot from a 22 will drop almost anything a hell of a lot better than a poor shot from a pistol. Like I mentioned I always have my off duty smith 9mm unless I don't have my rifle and I sometimes carry My Para P12 45with hot hand loads. Also I'm in NY were animals are typically very nervous people anyway

It still would make for a nice home defence gun if anything when you load it with .410 shot..
Kind of like those rounds that have shot in them but are in say a .45 case or a .44 and .357 I think they are called ice-glacier rounds.
I really don't bird hunt that much but knowing I could have a chance at a bird now and again could be fun ... How inaccurate is it , like real pathetic, at 35 yrd .... LOL

Funny thing. I've never carried on anytrips outdoors unless I was using a handgun for small game. When I drove for a living, I carrried a lot, NYC, Cleveland, Detroit and other's can be real hell holes. Carried a 4" Trooper in 357 loaded with 115gr JHP Speer's, I think it was Speer's; been a long time!

If I spent time in the Ochcoo's here, I'd carry. Not for the cats but for the pot farmer's, to many of them over there! Lot of big cat's around here but they don't bother people.

Yeah I remember that big pot bust Oregon had back in 2007. The location of the plantation was only about 1.5 miles from my in-laws house. Biggest in US history I believe. Like I've said I've stumbled upon weird stuff too here in Colorado to have learned to carry a sidearm. Luckily none of those two incidents ended up like in Deliverence

.410/.45

There is also a Thunder Five that offers the same 410/45 combo. My dad used to carry one for a truck gun. Rolls a bobcat good at about 15 yards loaded with #4 3 inchers. Heck of a snake getter too. I opt for either my Single Six 5 inch with .22 Mag Remington Balistic 40 Gr, or my Heritage Rouogh Rider 3.5 inch with .22 mag snake shot. Depends on what I'm doing. My part of Texas we have these neat little critters that go buzzz in the bushes, plus the increasing occurance of poachers. For me a good wheel gun is best. Not gonna Stove Pipe on ya when you need it most.

Go with what you can hit best with, and then put it where it counts!

S&W 500 4 inch Airborn Thumbs up I dont have to worry with 4 legged or 2!!! Will put a grizzly on its bum or blow a pot farmer in half!! I tend to use my walking stick on the snakes if needed. Dont know anything thats gonna get up after that slug hits!!! Not to cumbersom to carry like my Ruger SRH .44 course it aint got the range either but it aint for huntin!! I can cut a tree down at 25 yards and thats more than enough accuracy for protection IMHO.
