I have never used a scope on a shotgun. I think slug barrels have open sight's don't they? I've never considered a scope on a shotgun. May be something about mounting one?

Personally I don't see the point. But then again scopes on shotguns are prohibited for hunting in my state, or at least they were.

Shotgun scopes usually have parallax set at 50yds. Rifle scopes will usually be set at 100yds. Shotgun scopes tend to be more compact than the rifle scopes.

I am hunting with a Remington 870 with a rifled slug barrel and yes it does have iron sights. I am using Hornady SST 12ga 300 grain Sabot slugs. I will be zeroing at 100 yards. I included Hornady's specs below. Now you see why I am thinking about buying a scope the Hornady is a reach out and touch slug. I actually bought a Nikon Prostaff 3x9.40 model #6310 on the military post the other day for $137.50 while waiting on a response from BigGameHunt. I have a Leupold on my .308 which I am now thinking about replacing with a Nikon.

To answer your original question… shotgun scopes can take more recoil and maintain zero. I use a red dot scope on mine for faster target acquisition at short range… 0-100yds.

Not exactly. They should be able to handle the same amount of recoil. At least where most brands are concerned. Many big-bore rifles produce more recoil than a 12 ga slug gun.

I believe JCalhoun with his parallax reply pretty much gave the most sound answer.
