Painted Horse if you are killing 360-380 bulls with your buddies then you obviously know where to hunt and how to hunt elk. It sounds like if you guys are going without occasionally on a Utah LE unit then you are being very selective and taking the biggest bulls you can depending on your unit.
Utahs general season is not even an option for me as it would do nothing but depress me. I would rather hunt a Utah LE hunt with a friend than have a 11-30 percent chance of shooting a rag horn to 300 bull.
I have had a 100 percent success rate on the Utah Limited Entry Elk hunts excluding the LE archery hunts. I am 50 percent on the archery hunts helping my friends but the overall success on the LE archery is probly around 15 to 25 percent depending on the unit. However on the hunt my friend did not harvest he never pursued anything under 330. He definately could have shot a bull.
14 points puts you hunting some great hunts in 2009 unless you choose not to hunt by putting in on the early rifle on the top units. If you wait I fear your odds of taking a 360-380 bull or bigger are shrinking as the state likes its money and continues to give out more tags each year. I wish I was in your shoes and had 14 points. 2009 would be my year!!
