Is anybody else catching what Obama's up to with our nuclear arsenal? First he cut a deal with the Russians that limits each of us to 1,550 warheads. That doesn't sound so bad. But the part that didn't get as much coverage was that the deal also requires each country to base nukes on its own sovereign soil. So the Russians get to keep Eastern Europe and Asia under threat, but we're kept thousands of miles away.
Now he's changing our nuclear posture. He just announced to the world that the US will not us nuclear weapons if attacked by a nation that signed the non-proliferation treaty -- even if they use biological or chemical weapons or launch a devastating cyber attack. How do you like that? Don't worry about American nukes -- the American president won't use them even if his nation is decimated.
Now the Russians have announced that if our missile defense system "threatens the efficiency of the Russian nuclear arsenal" they'll withdraw from the new START treaty Obama just negotiated. But even as they said that, they said they won't announce the conditions of their withdrawal until after Obama signs the treaty this Thursday. Most people might think it foolish to go ahead with the marriage when the fiancee is already announcing plans for the divorce.
Aside from the obvious reservations I have about America rolling over and exposing its belly to the world, I have to think this is a sobering reminder not to be complacent about gun control. If this guy wouldn't use a nuke even if we were attacked with a virus that killed 100 million Americans, where do you think he stands in regards to your right to self defense?
