Disarming America

Is anybody else catching what Obama's up to with our nuclear arsenal? First he cut a deal with the Russians that limits each of us to 1,550 warheads. That doesn't sound so bad. But the part that didn't get as much coverage was that the deal also requires each country to base nukes on its own sovereign soil. So the Russians get to keep Eastern Europe and Asia under threat, but we're kept thousands of miles away.

Now he's changing our nuclear posture. He just announced to the world that the US will not us nuclear weapons if attacked by a nation that signed the non-proliferation treaty -- even if they use biological or chemical weapons or launch a devastating cyber attack. How do you like that? Don't worry about American nukes -- the American president won't use them even if his nation is decimated.

Now the Russians have announced that if our missile defense system "threatens the efficiency of the Russian nuclear arsenal" they'll withdraw from the new START treaty Obama just negotiated. But even as they said that, they said they won't announce the conditions of their withdrawal until after Obama signs the treaty this Thursday. Most people might think it foolish to go ahead with the marriage when the fiancee is already announcing plans for the divorce.

Aside from the obvious reservations I have about America rolling over and exposing its belly to the world, I have to think this is a sobering reminder not to be complacent about gun control. If this guy wouldn't use a nuke even if we were attacked with a virus that killed 100 million Americans, where do you think he stands in regards to your right to self defense?

I'm afraid to see what Obama will try destroying next, "every day" while he's in the White House. Mad
I can only put my Faith in our system it will over turn Obama who I believe is our interenal Nuke, our men and woman in harms way shouldn't have to be treated like they are the problem and now I see they are really changing what we call our enemies again. I am starting to believe the enemies have more rights than we do with this bunch.
The Hoax and Change has never worked for me!

Re: Disarming America

Just in: the news is reporting today that Obama's rewriting the National Security Strategy and removing references to radical Islam and terrorism (Bush's NSS described militant Islamic radicalism as the greatest threat we face in the 21st Century). He doesn't want to offend Muslims. No word yet on how he'll address things like Al Qaeda.

Now there's a challenge -- describe the greatest threat posed to the United States without using the words "Islam," "radical," or "terrorism." Perhaps we should start referring to them as "people we don't understand yet" and focus our national security strategy on changing our perspectives in order to be more friendly and accomodating so they'll be nicer to us.

One day they won't even use the word "ENEMY" anymore. Oh what a peaceful world it will be. eye roll bs

As the Roman Empire used to be fond of saying: ci vis pacem para bellum - if you wish for peace, prepare for war. In other words peace through strength - kick a bully's ass and he'll stop bullying you - refuse to be a victim. How many more ways can I say it?

There's a reason why Sam Colt names his famous revolver of the old west the Peacemaker!!

Re: Disarming America

Shoulda seen this one coming. As soon as the ink was dry on the nuke deal, Medvedev and Obama "reaffirmed their commitment to considering sanctions" against Iran. Medvedev said it's regrettable that Iran hasn't responded, and that it's possible the Security Council could take it up. Seriously -- that's the best Obama could get for selling off our nuclear defenses? Note that even in the immediate aftermath of signing the treaty, Medvedev didn't say "condemn", nor did he commit to anything. He didn't say the Security Council will take it up, nor did he say Russia will support such action -- he only said it's "possible" the Security Council will get involved. It's always been possible for the Security Council to take action. It's possible an asteroid might destroy the Earth, too.

This happened before when Obama threw Eastern Europe under the bus and pulled the plug on their missile shield -- there was coverage immediately afterward about how Russia and the US were on the same page about doing something with Iran. But it lasted about 15 minutes before the Russians started blocking us again.

Obama's managing our foreign policy the same way he works with Congress. Once again, he sacrificed our national defense thinking he could buy Russia like a health care vote. The difference is that Russia is smart enough to know that all they have to do is give him one or two press conferences that involve vague, noncommittal rhetoric before backing out of the deal and going back to business as usual -- and Obama won't do a thing about it except come back to the table with more gifts in another vain attempt. He's like the geeky kid so desperate to fit in with the cool kids that he's buying them things and humiliating himself by doing ridiculous tasks they assign him -- and they just laugh and take advantage of him. Maybe a crack whore would be a better analogy. You want it, baby? What are you going to do for me?

I think a lot in movie metaphors, and the ones that come to mind are that kid "Danger" in "Million Dollar Baby", the arranged bride (hop on one foot and bark like a dog) in "Coming to America", or Robert Downey Jr. in "Less than Zero."

We're not going to get anything of substance against Iran. Within a month, you're going to hear Russia balking on action against Iran again or complaining about our missile defense program.

Re: Disarming America

I can't imagine anyone being surprised by what this admonistration is doing. Obama is and has been a radical for years long before he assended the throne. He hates this country and everything that has made it great. If he can he will totally destroy the US anyway he can. After all there is a lot of evidence that he wasn't even born here. His wife in 08 made a reference that Kenya is his home country. Did she slip up? He has been educated by and hangs around people who would tear down the fabric of this great nation. He has bought into the notion that he is a God and the lamestream media helps out on that matter.
Our only hope is the 2010 elections & the American people waking up before it's too late. As the Arabs say it is dangerous being America's enemy but more dangerous being their friend.

I guess you're right alcan7, that we shouldn't be surprised by what's going on - but I am. In spite of what we knew about Obama and his radical agenda, I really thought others in his administration would rein him in. That was a foolish hope.

I do wonder how much damage he will do to this country before he's stopped.

You have to look what is in his administration. They are as bad as he is. For instance you have a tax cheat running the treasury dept, a child molester wanna-be as the safe school tzar, a guy that wants to paint all the roofs white to solve the energy chrisis, a wack job who wants to give animals lawyers, a commie who admires Mao, another commie who quit under pressure, someone who wants limits put on how many kids you have. I can go on but you get my drift. Obama will hire absolutely the worst and least qualified people he can find.
If you hate the US and are a commie then he might have a position for you.

Re: Disarming America

Personally, I have this thing where I think the person running our national defense ought to be able to meet the same standards for a security clearance that any of the troops do. There are a lot of unanswered questions about place of birth, activities of family members, past associations with terrorists, etc...
