Digital Camo, Yes or no?

Hello, im new to hunting just got my license. I was looking at camo and i seen the Digital Camo on sale, or there was the Mossy oak/real tree stuff. Does anyone have any good or bad to say about the digital stuff. Has it been proven to be any better than the other stuff? I have heard that it is supposed to be better. What do you guys think?

Hello and welcome,

The military seems to think they need it. I don't know, maybe they do. Not sure that it's better than what civilians have available to them. It can work fine for hunting if it matches the vegitation where you hunt. If you want a smaller patterned camo similar to digital but better for hunting then choose a jacquard pattern from Woolrich called "camwoolflage". I just don't see the point of that digital military stuff for hunting, especially since there is much more suitable camo patterns out there available to hunters who have a choice of what they want to use.

Your best bet would be to choose a pattern from Realtree or Mossy Oak. Camo is more critical to use when bow hunting big game, turkey hunting, or waterfowl hunting. I only wear camo while duck and goose hunting and can tell you that there are three patterns that work for me for various vegitations and seasons - they are - Realtree's Advantage Timber, Mossy Oak's Shadow Grass, and Realtree's Advantage Wetlands. Even use Woolrich camwoolflage for waterfowl hunting too and since I have it I also use it for big game rifle hunting as well.

For most rifle hunting you must wear so many cubic inches of Blaze Orange anyway (depending on the laws in your area), so no need to buy special camo for big game rifle hunting or upland bird hunting, but if you already have it then use it. Your hunting clothing should be utilitarian field type clothing, something that you won't be afraid to get dirty.

Digital camo is basically regular military camo but digitized. What you see is individual "pixels" (color squares)of that combine to made the different color pattern. I personally don't like it but to each... For the military purpose it is probably fine but for the hunters there are better choices out there.

I didn't wear camo unless I was bow hunting. Nowadays it's hard to find good hunting clothing that isn't camo.
I'm not familiar with the digital patterns that are available. The standard patterns work just fine for me. Pick one that best matches the terrain you'll be working.

Digital camo is great. The pixel design is impossible to focus on at longer distances and the pattern melts into the background without the lines and silhouete of conventional camo. heres a pic of the green variety I use and love. Maybe a little to technical for most hunting but this shirt is also vented mesh, the most comfortable jersey I own.

Digital camo was designed by the military primarily to confuse night-vision devices, which could pick out "regular" camo pretty easily. If the game that you're hunting doesn't use night vision binoculars then I'm guessing that digital camo will be little if any advantage over the old-fashioned stuff.
