Different primers in standard rilfe cartridges

I overheard someone taking about using different sized primers to tweak your rifle loads. I am using large rifle primers for my .270 win. What would I gain by changing this up and what would I use? Magnum primers?

It all depends on the loads

It all depends on the loads that you are shooting.  If you are getting good accuracy I wouldn't change a thing.  Sometimes using a magnum primer will improve it and sometimes it will cause problems.  If you do switch you need to start your load from the begining since you may be near the top of the pressure curve right now and the new primer may push you over.

You can try it and see just

You can try it and see just what it does but remember that you need to back off the load when ever you change a component.
