Deer Management Workshop Scheduled
RALEIGH, N.C. (Aug. 10, 2005) — N.C. State University and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will conduct a deer management workshop at the East Carolina Agriculture and Education Center in Rocky Mount on Aug. 25.
“White-tailed Deer Management: The Basics and Beyond” will feature deer experts discussing white-tailed deer biology, habitat management for deer, food plot management for deer, harvest strategies to improve herd health, disease risks to deer and more.
The sharp increase in North Carolina’s populations of deer and people makes deer management an important issue for most North Carolinians.
“It is estimated that only 10,000 deer were in North Carolina in 1900. Now, there are 1.1 million,” said Evin Stanford, the Wildlife Commission’s deer biologist and a speaker at the deer management workshop. “This will be a good workshop for anyone interested in white-tailed deer ecology and management. It’ll be of particular interest to people who are involved with organized hunt clubs or people seeking information about quality deer management.”
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. A $75 registration fee covers lunch and workshop materials. Pre-registration is required, and the deadline is Aug. 18. The East Carolina Agriculture and Education Center is located at 1175 Kingsboro Road in Rocky Mount.
