Okay, let me give you another hint. Most avid "deer" hunters(other big game aside for now) will agree there are many popular calibers out there. And in these times most are easy to find a wide variety of bullets and weights for, to hunt other game if you wish.
You are sixteen, do like I did when I bought my first gun. Go to a few gun dealers and look around at the different manufacturer's products. Whether it's a Remington, Ruger, Savage, Tikka...whatever it is, one or two of them you will just fall in love with. By the way it feels, and by it's looks. Then pick out an all-around caliber, because some specific ones aren't offered in certain models.
Unless you are very lucky, you won't be doing any serious hunting that requires specific gear for a while(heck I've deer hunted for 20 years and don't need it yet!) My guess is you'll be hunting under a normal variety of weather and terrain conditions, that most guns these days will handle. So in my opinion, get what appeals to you now, in looks and feel(then caliber). Because there might be other's better later in life, but this will always be your first gun.
