Deep in Health Bill, Very Specific Beneficiaries

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/21/health/policy/21healthcare.html

Quote:
“You’ve got to compliment Ben Nelson for playing ‘The Price is Right,’ ” said Senator Richard M. Burr, Republican of North Carolina. “He negotiated a Medicaid agreement for Nebraska that puts the federal government on the hook forever. Not for six years, not for 10 years. This isn’t the Louisiana Purchase; this is the Nebraska windfall.”

Applause

Ben Nelson isn't the only beneficiary, read the article for more fun and games.

This is all part of the new era of bipartisanship, transparency and end to politics as usual that Obama's bringing to Washington.

This is nothing more than old fashioned pork barrel politics. Plain and simple self serving shortsightedness yet we are led to believe this is "progressive" and that of you stand in the way you are "partisan". I for one would rather be partisan than gutless.

Some change.

Looks like the Nebraska Compromise may have gone too far. I didn't realize that the bill basically exempts Nebraska from paying Medicaid.

"The Nebraska compromise, which permanently exempts Nebraska from paying Medicaid costs that Texas and all other 49 states must pay, may violate the United States Constitution — as well as other provisions of federal law," Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said.
