That's all you have to come back with? A link to a letter from Daniel Hudson in Connecticut? Laugh Laugh

The original post was an Op Ed in the Times.

Posting the letters to the editor In the Times that rubut the Op Ed is considered the appropriate thing to do. You probably aren't familiar with reading newspapers.

If you want something to sink your teeth into here's a different one.

Quote:
In the light of the collosal failures of unregulated market-based solutions, your insistance on donating the money rather then returning it to the taxpayers is not noblesse oblige, but a shocking and appalling continued deligitimatization of democratically elected government and an insult to the taxpayers and principles of this nation.

So now you're rebutting your own post?

Wow. You have no clue whatsoever how to debate, do you?. The original post was a letter written by an executive from AIG that actually got a bonus. He's the center of the news story.

Your post is a letter the editor from who? A guy on the street in Connecticut.

So if Henry Kissenger wrote an op-ed on a foreign policy in current headlines, the appropriate thing to counter it is to post an letter to the editor written by Bubba McCracken in Jackson, Mississippi -- as long as it appears in the same paper?

Your quote is downright chilling, by the way. That money was given to AIG to help it pay off its debts. That retention bonus was obligated by contract and therefore a legitimate debt to be paid. And by the way -- DiSantis didn't send the taxpayers' money to AIG -- your Democratic friends in Congress did. Why aren't you mad at them? It's ridiculous and downright totalitarian to say that donating HIS money to charity isn't acceptable -- he has to give it back to the state. Guess he should've just kept the money, because refusing to accept it didn't gain him anything -- they're still calling for his head.

You sound more like the Inquisition every day. And by the way...that quote is straight out of "Atlas Shrugged", too -- where industrialist Hank Rearden agrees to donate $10,000 to one of his brother's liberal causes, only to take a beating over how much he really "cares", get asked to donate the money in cash so the receiving organization wouldn't have to be associated with him, and be accused of using charitable donations as a means of "enslaving" people with his money.

The correct analogy would be more like this,

I contract with civetcat to build me a fence for, say, $ 1 mil. catman agrees and builds a fine fence but before I can pay him some jerk in a SUV with Arkansas plates runs me off the road and into my new fence destroying a good portion of it.
Insurance pays for the fence repair which I forward on to civetcat and I promise civetcat that I will pay him the full $1mil if he;ll just repair the fence, however once he is done I cry foul and I refuse to pay civetcat what I promised to pay him because the original price was too high and it wasn't I who caused the fence to be destroyed, it was that jerk in the SUV with the Arkansas plates.
Now tell me civetcat, do I owe you the $1 mil even though I had a partially destroyed but repaired fence?

Oh and PS, the nytimes is not a reputable news source, please re-post using a reputable news source.

Civet generally cuts and runs when facts and logic start taking over.

He knows that if he responds that I owe him the 1 million then he'll have to admit that the AIG execs should get their contractually agreed upon bonuses no matter how bad we think it looks.
If he responds that I do not owe the 1 million then we'll all know that he is just argumentative and has no base for his previous contentions that he posted. He would lose either way.
