CWD testing for Unit 7?

Couple of questions.

1) How many of you get your elk/deer tested for CWD? I have not had to deal with CWD where I live, new to me.

2) What is the best way to submit a sample for testing? I'll be backpacking so I would need to use the lightest test sample I can submit.

3) Where do I submit a sample for testing if hunting Unit 7?

Thanks for your response in advance as this forum has been extremely helpful in preparing for my trip next week. Thanks and good hunting.

CWD testing for Unit 7?

I am pretty sure they want the entire head for testing. I may be wrong, but I submitted the head a couple of years ago. FYI ...they charge YOU to submit for testing too. I believe it was like $15-20. There is a seperate tag on your license for submitting the head.

Also, if I am not mistaken Ft Collins, CO. Div of Wildlife is the closest drop off. Let me snoop around their site and see what I can find out.

They want the entire head because they don't trust you to cut out the correct lymphnodes or the brainstem. But don't worry about it. I've never bothered. When I was a biologist, the one animal I susupected to have CWD turned out to be negative. Just don't eat the spine or brain.
cost is $25.
