Craig elk hunt

Myself and three buddies are planning to come to Craig in 09 for an Elk hunt. We are from ND so this is very new to us. I have been reading all the info on the DOW website and think I have a good starting point. We are going to hunt public land during the 3rd season buying OTC tags. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We do hunt whitetails in the woods out here so i am hoping it is similar. If anyone is willing to trade a hunt for whitetail, ducks, geese, sharptails, or pheasant in ND let me know.

Re: Craig elk hunt

The area around craig holds a lot of elk especially later in the rifle seasons. Third season is about the time when the elk start to migrate into the lower areas around craig because the snow is building up in the high country by this time. you should have no trouble finding a couple elk if you get yourself a BLM map and hunt the public land. you can get maps from either the Bureau of land management or the craig chamber of commerce. Elk hunting is a little bit different from whitetail hunting. You have to do alot of walking and a lot of glassing to get an elk

hope this helps
good luck on the hunt
