Craig, CO Hotel Recommendations

Does anybody have any recommendations for hotels/motels in/near Craig, CO?  My dad and I are taking a quick scouting trip this weekend, and we thought we would stay in a hotel rather than roughing it.  I am not looking for anything fancy, and any info is appreciated.

craig motels

We have quite a few to choose from here. Most are ok, some are a bit more "rustic" than others. The ones I would recommend are the Hampton Inn (new), Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn and Best Western.  The Americas Best Value Inn used to be the Super 8 and it's right by the Holiday Inn. All of these are on the west end of town.

How 'bout a Kozy Cabin

The Craig Campground (used to be KOA, now independent) also has cabins for cheap (~$50/night).  They aren't fancy, but they are dry, warm and clean with hot showers in the community bathrooms.  We have stayed there several times.

The Bear Valley Inn is another cheaper motel that would fall into the "rustic" category.  Again, not fancy, but clean and comfortable.

Thanks for the responses.  I

Thanks for the responses.  I decided to try one of the "rustic" options, and I made a reservation with the Bear Valley Inn today.  Don't plan on being at the hotel long, so as long as it is cleanish, I will be content.  Thanks again for the info!

So I did stay at the Bear

So I did stay at the Bear Valley Inn.  It was clean and comfortable.  It was cheaper than the other hotel/motels I checked, so I could not have been happier.  I would definitely recommend it if you need hotel accomodations in Craig.

I guess I'm just getting old

I guess I'm just getting old and cranky....but....the one experience that I had hunting in the Craig area left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I vowed never to set foot in the area again.  That was almost 10 years ago and I'm still bitter.

Hope you have better luck but, they've seen the last of me and my money.

Sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear you had a crappy hunting experience.  I guess we've all had them, but I can't say I've had anything bad enough to make me avoid an entire town.  Hope to never end up having such an experience either.  I'd prefer to continue looking forward to hunting in as many different places as possible, wherever they may be.

Here's to a great hunt this season!

I know that the Craig area

I know that the Craig area gets overran by hunters during hunting season.  I also know that anytime you get large groups of people together, you are going to have several idiots in the bunch.  The expression "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups" comes to mind.  I have read posts from several members of this website sharing their negative experiences about this area.  However, I did hunt the area during second season (which is probably the busiest it gets) last year, and I am still willing to give it another try this year.  I probably won't hunt this area every year, but for now, I think it will be my OTC option while I acquire 1-3 pts for other units.  Thanks for the warning, and hopefully you have found some areas you enjoy hunting.
