Craig Area "Free" Public Camping? HELP!

So, I am almost set to venture out for my elk hunt next Friday the 3rd! FINALLY! I am not hunting my normal digs, I am hunting on the Big Gulch Ranches around Craig. What I am looking for is a place to camp that is near town or the ranches, and is also free! As many of you are aware, I was recently out of work for just over a year and barely "catching-up" financially, so I am planning on using the wall tent and roughing it mid winter in northwest Colorado. Even the pay campgrounds are likely out of my league.

From what I gather on the process, I have to check-in each day in town, and then also check back in at the end of the day. Where I normally camp is too far north (~40miles) and any other places that I am familiar with I am sure are snowed in deep by now.

So I am now desperate for help!  I need something close by so I am not spending a fortune on gas getting back and forth each day.

Thanks in advance for your assistance, it is most appreciated!

Where is the ranch located

Where is the ranch located from Craig? We went down south a couple times during our hunt and we found a couple slivers of blm that touched roads down there and we even thought about moving our camp down there at one point. The thing is these were 1/8 or even 1/16 of square mile sections and so finding the exact spot where they touch the road is going to take your blm map and probably a gps combined with some clever google earth and gps planning. I will see if I can track down the blm map and describe which areas I am referring to.

Are you getting pumped? You should be. I bet all that snow has them sitting on those low elevation ranches.

The ranch is basically 5-10

The ranch is basically 5-10 miles north of Hwy40, and stretches from a few miles northeast of Hayden, all the way to about 25 miles northwest of Craig! ...124,000 acres, and actually includes [5] seperate ranches.

I usually do camp on BLM, and I have located a few BLM patches on the map that might be good, though I am worried about access.

Thanks for help, I surely appreciate it!
