I gather you have not hunted before! Big smile
#1 you are not going to get that close to a coyote-
the caliber of rifle is up to you- anything from a .17 to 300 Win Mag
most hunters use a dying rabbit call eye roll eye roll eye roll
you need a good rifle and optics- lots of practice

I would get a rifle you can use to hunt something else-
if you are going to do Deer or Elk I would go with 30-06 8) 8)
this caliber has at least 100 different loads 8)
get yourself a chair and a set of shooter sticks
sticks you can make on your own if interested on how - send me an e-mail

How's everything in SW Washington.
If you can, get yourself two rifles. A bolt action in 270win and a 30-06.
Load 130's and 140's in the 270 and 150's and 180's in the 30-06. You'll have all the bases covered for Washington, from long range varminting to the big Roosevelt's. Save the shotgun for the birds and rabbits. A 12ga. or 20ga with #7 1/2 or #8 shot.
