well im about to get a new riffle for christmas with th intentions of starting to do some varmit hunting. ive never hunted coyote and any good tips on places to go would be great. like allways ill do my own research and find places, but you guys are to good a resource to ignore. thanks
what kind of gun are you getting?
I prefer to call coyotes from the timbers while sitting in some cover in a large open space where I can see several hundred yards between me and the timber.Try to keep the wind in your favor. I invested in a digital caller this year. First 2 times I tried it out, I had yotes coming in before the first sequence was done( about 2 minutes!)
Hey Dude,
What Call Did you buy? I've been lookin at these for about a year now and can't decide weather to buy an inexpensive one or to fork over the bills for the high end Foxpros.
L B, on the rifle side of things .22-250 in just about any brand of bolt rifle. I shoot a Ruger No. 1 with a luppy VX-II 6-18 scope and a trigger job. Its perfect when you hit em....second shots, um not so much. Mine shoots 55 grain pills into one hole.
I've heard great things about central Washington and have a trip planed for the middle of December to scout and shoot a bit. North of Moses Lake probably.

im getting the new remington R-15 vtr. its a camo AR 15 already set up for hunting. and since remington bought bushmaster its basically a high end bushmaster hunting rifle.
.223?...... nice.

I will be trying out my brand new Johny Stewarts this weekend. Any suggestions on which calls to use? I have 3 chips of Coyote and small game calls. If you care to share, which ones worked the best and what sequence did you use them in and how often did you call?
Thanks, Steve
Moved to preditor forum.
The first time I tried it I used the distressed rodent. It did not even finish the sequence before a yote came out! Second time desperate cottontail, same thing , yote came out before sequence was finished. Others I have brought out are a combination of sistress calls and coywolf bark/howl. I also use a critter decoy that I think ultimately topped of the setup. Set it up 10 yds away with the speaker next to it and I will also add a fresh kill( rabbit, squirrel, coon, etc.) Pay close attention to wind and make sure you are in an area that holds yotes. Start the call low volume to attract the close ones, if no response increase volume. Wait several minutes, if nothing shows then crank it up for some long calling. If one is coming from long distance be patient. I've had some take up to half an hour. Do Not over call. After you do your volume sequences wait10 - 15 min. and then try a last quiet call to help bring in something that has got hung up.
Good Luck!
Is this the new P-4 "wireless" model caller ?
If so,.. how do you like it and what's the maximum distance that the wireless unit will actually operate from??
I'm considering purchasing one,... too many yotes frequenting my farm lately.
