I have heard that coyote are creatures of habit and in that they take similiar routes at similiar times throughout each day. Basically, if you see one cross a field one day at say 5:00 than the likelihood of seeing it at the same time in the same field is high. Is this true?

Hello tomcat , I think the answer you are looking for is false >coyotes are real roamers . If you saw one cross a field today you may never see another cross it again .They do a lot of traveling along old woodroads .I've been trapping them since they came to Nova Scotia . They have no set patern .

I would have to agree. After many days in the woods I don't believe I have ever seen a coyote use the same pattern. I've seen many coyotes, but never in the same place I had seen them previously. Sorry, don't think they are that simple.

It's just my opinion but I would think that if an area is of interest to a coyote and he hunts through it then it would also hold some intrest for another coyote when he is in the area. If a yote hunts up some grub one time......why wouldn't he come back and try again? Just throwing out some thoughts......I'm no coyote man. Mr. Cool!

I haven't noticed any constant with coyotes.
They usually hang in an area if they have new pups to tend to.
Up here in Washington they will follow the Elk herds and pick up what the Elk stir up.
They are never very far from water.
When the rabbits and/or small birds, Quail and such, are abundant. They will move into that area.
Find a herd of large animals or an abundance of food animals and a water hole and you will find coyotes. Set yourself up between the water hole and the herd or food animals and, with a little patients, you will find a coyote or three.
They are certainly wary. It's best to find a stand and hold.
I almost always see coyotes when I'm hunting Quail or Chukar and I can hear them during the early and late hours of the day when the little rabbits are abundant.

Also, very common for us to see coyotes come in while hunting turkeys.
