Cow moose how to ?

My understanding is that , normally, cows come in to the bulls so calling should work. Two people I know personally have called in cows here in VT. One used can/sring call, the other used his voice amplified by a birchbark tube.

Try calling near a pond. The water seems to carry the sound further.

Good luck!!!

I also am in the same boat as you I have an archery cow tag and I am looking to pursue a cow with my bow this season as well. I have heard that calling in a cow moose is a tough thing to do were as bulls will come in to the call better. I have been told that if you are trying to call in a cow moose sometimes soft bull grunts and a little bit of thrashing of bushes may work. You could also try covering a lot of ground and then once you see a cow try to use the spot and stalk method by sneaking up to it. I recently just seen a cow moose being followed by a bull when i was hunting a couple of days ago. Could not get close enough to the cow though. Sometimes it just doesnt work out. Anyways good luck.

Moose are curious and often will come into a call. You can try short grunts to sound like a bull but I would suggest only doing that tactic when trying to bring them in closer. A long call will travel better and will hopefully bring them in.

One thing I would recommend is not to call too often. Do a call, wait about 20 minutes then try another.

Also when you start to hear them coming towards you, stop calling. You don't want to give yourself away. Believe me the moose know exactly where you are...

Another method mentioned above is using the can with a string. If you wet the string a bit you will get a nice sounding call. If you practise a bit, you can even make the can sound like it is a moose breathing.

Don't forget to use the can if you are near water to emulate a moose peeing in the water.

Just a few ideas that you probably already know...

I have a bull tag and can't wait to get out the door Friday morning!!!!!

Good luck!
