Cow Elk hunting tips

After spending most of the summer trying to rally a few of my local friends for a hunting partner I've come to the conclussion that since I hike I'll be hunting alone.
So I purchased an OTC cow tag for a longer season.

Does anyone have any tips for a first time cow elk hunter?

Does calf/cow calling help?

Should I hold out and hope for snow?

The season runs to the end of November.

Cow Elk hunting tips

I use a cow call all season long, as for snow I do hold out a little bit just to push them down out of the high country. I also do a lot of hiking but not as much for cows or does for that matter but the area I hunt in has very good numbers for elk, so I wait for them to come down to the pickup and get a window licker if possible.
