Couple of Kansas turkey hunts (videos)

These are two videos my girlfriend shot. The first video is of my hunt on opening morning in Kansas for the early archery season.

This hunt is that afternoon after my nephew got out of school. This was his first ever turkey hunt.

Great Hunt! Some days it just seems real easy Big smile
Congrats to Greg on his first bird.
How old is he? What gauge is he shooting?

Greg is 12. I let him shoot one of my 20 gauge autos. That gun is a Charles Daly with a Primos choke tube and 3" shells. He put a pretty good shot on that bird and I was surprised he went as far as he did.

My oldest is 9 and I think he is getting close to being ready. Are those turkey loads, and do they kick pretty good? I'm trying to decide if the gun is too much for him before I buy one and get started or if I should wait another year or 2.

My buddies daughter was 9 last year and and she shoots a Charles Daily Youth model 20 gauge pump with the same Primos choke tube and 3 inch shells. She is 10 this year and about 90 pounds. Greg is pretty small for a 12 year old at 75 pounds, shooting an adult gun with 3 inch shells. He said he didn't feel it at all when he shot his turkey. We got Greg a retractable shooting stick to help him stay steady. I took him out a few times to shoot before the season so he would know what the gun felt like and how it reacted. If he is an average size 9 year old, he should be able to shoot a 20 gauge now.
