Corn fed Whitetail

Of all the years in the field and all the wild game I've had over the years. I don't believe that I have ever had any of the corn fed Whitetail meat that i have been hearing about.
There are a few places in this state that I may be able to tag one but I'm primarily a Blacktail and Mulie hunter when it comes to deer.
Are they as delicious as I keep hearing? If so I may just make a point of going after one.

The old expression"you are what you eat" applies to all game animals. A deer that feeds on corn or acorns tastes much better than one feeding on cedar. Same with bears. The worst tasting bear I ever tried to eat was a "dump" bear. Yet the bears that have been feeding on fruit and berries are delicious.

corn-fed

i live in the thumb of mich. and i am surrounded by thousands of acres of corn, soy, and sugar beets;the deer we harvest are excellant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i also hunt the heavily forested areas of our state where the deer have no access to crops and i can truly say that those deer have a much gamier taste to them-yet they are more of a challenge to hunt, becuase the crop deer can often be predictable-at least as far as the groups of does goes-the older bucks are still pretty wiley and will go nocturnal as soon as pressure increases

Deer from predom Ag lands definetly tase different than "big wood's" deer.

I grew up hunting the Adk Mts of NY where there was no farm land at all. We would bone out deer and then take the time to cut off all traces of fat and tendon. Though the meat itself is a little stronger any fat on it gave it a tallowy / gamey flaver.

Now I live and do some hunting in CNY where it is all Apples, corn and soybeans. The meat is definetly "sweeter" and the fat is not gamey or tallowy at all. I still bone out these deer but ony because I do not have a band saw. These "corn fed" deer you could cut up like a cow and they would be good.

Nothing like a blueberry or black cherry fed Bear. Mmmmm getting hungry now baby.
