Cooked a Skull Today

Well, today was a nice day outside so I got out the old Coleman stove and pot and cooked up a javelina skull today.  It came out quite nice and I'll wait for a while before I decide if I want to bleach it to keep it white later.  This is from the javelina that I shot a couple of weeks ago.

Looks like a good days work .

Looks like a good days work . I'm amazed at how white it is already I thought for sure you had already bleached it.

The portable coleman is my preferred method of cooking them also. Easy to clean up and put away when your'e finished.

I put a little bit of

I put a little bit of Oxi-Clean into the final boil or simmer.  It seams like it did a good job but only time will tell.

Very cool!  I am not a big

Very cool!  I am not a big fan of Euro mounts of animals, but on pigs they look pretty cool.

They show off the cutters really well!  I am surprised at the size of those ones.  How long do they measure?

Nice work!

The uppers are only a inch

The uppers are only a inch and the lower are 1 1/2" but as I said in my original post this guy was a small one.  I have one that would make to book in Arizona that the uppers are 2" and the lowers are 1 1/2"

I had not heard of using

I had not heard of using Oxi-clean before but it looks like it did a pretty good job. I'll have to pick some up and try it next time I have something to work on.

I have never measured any of the 3 javelina that I've taken, I'll try to put a tape to them tomorrow as now I'm interested in knowing.

If you measure one of the

If you measure one of the skulls you need to measure from the snout to the back of the skull to where the bones form a V and measure to the bottom of the V.  For the book I believe that it needs to be better than 9 1/2" measured in 1/16" of an inch.

Turned out very nice !!

Critter,

It turned out very nice ! Yes I usually start adding a quality dish washing detergent to my boil after about the second or third cleaning. I change my water alot when I am boiling a skull.
