I'm not to sure actually. I think since its private land it would be up to the land owner. From what i understand though is you can find a lot of rams floating the river and glassing the canyon. If i draw the ram tag i put in for thats what my plan is. I refuse to pay a treespass fee. Just curios as to why your Applying for W. john day river with 60% public land, when E. john day has 90%? good luck on your draws. I'm hoping to atleast draw my 600 series tag i have enough points for that. My elk is a long shot as you need 16 to have a chance i only have 11.

I'm out of state numb so my options are limited as to the units I can apply for out of state. I ended up putting in for Snake River as my first choice. Keep my fingers crossed and see what happens...

Very nice Numb.  Looks like a good variety there, even if half of them are for points only.

Just curious, how many points are you trying to save for spring bear?  What's it normally take to draw?

well in most units that have

well in most units that have spring hunts you only need 0-1 point, In the unit I'm saving for (west blue mountain) it takes about 5-6 points. in that area you can hunt 5 units and they have a lot of bears and a lot of color phase bears. When applying for the spring hunts though its a crap shoot, in most years its hard to get into the good areas due to snow. I'm kinda waiting to actually apply for the unit till we have a below average snow fall. this year we have a lot of snow in the hills so acess could be a challenge. I dont wanna burn my points for nothing.

As of 2010 draws, I have 11 elk points, kinda stuck in no mans land not enough for the tag i want but to many for a lesser unit. i could get lucky and draw the tag i want. buck deer I have 2 points. just trying to build them up for a decent tag. the unit i normaly hunt takes 1. Lopes i have 3 points, next year 2012 i will start applying for actual hunt instead of points. and spring bear i have 3 points. still a few shy of getting a 100% chance at the tag i want, but like i said before its a crap shoot with the snow pack. its so cheap to buy points($8) so i do. i can only do a few hunts a year and deer and elk are the main ones so i have to rotate between bear and lopes every few years. My antlerless deer i have 3 points and should draw the tag i want, so if things work out the way i"m hopeing I'll be hunting elk in our top unit, deer during our late season archery, and a doe or spike in oct. and maybe even a ram?

I'm not putting in for Oregon but trying for moose tags in 2 or 3 states and deer tags (buck and doe) in at least two more.

Have never applied for Oregon

Have never applied for Oregon yet but am looking at the options as Blacktail are certainly on my list now.

I'll be there in May sturgeon fishing and will see what I can learn from my guide as I know he does some deer hunting also.

I'm trying to put together a new hunting adventure every year now that my kids are grown up and I have more free time.

Well the good news for you is, you wont need to apply for a blacktail tag as they are over the counter. Blacktails live on the west side of the state and are all general season hunts. All you need to do is get a license and a tag, you can do that in a retail store or online at the odfw's website, good luck to you with the fishing, sturgon fishing will kick your butt.LOL. and good luck if you decide to hunt in oregon.
