compound vs crossbow

Croossbows, especially the compound crossbows, are just compound bows attached horizontally to a rifle type stock. The advantage of the crossbow is that you have conventional sights and the abilitiy to place a scope on it. The crossbow is much easier for the amateur to shoot because of this. You have to make sure the crossbow is allowed in the area you plan to use it in. Regular bows are pretty much allowed across the board.

i like the difficulty of bow shooting and i feel like shooting a crossbow would be liek shooting a gun and take away the most difficult part what do u think? i live in ky and they r thinking of making the crossbow season the same as archery and next yr i was gonna buy a new bow but now if they pass this new "law" then ive considered crossbowing. what crossbow would u reccommend? or what company makes a good one? (somethin under 450 or round there)

thanx alot for the help

I have a Barnett crossbow that I really like for target shooting. Hunting with it is not allowed up here but I don't think I would anyway. I would go with a compound bow if I was going to hunt with an arrow. The crossbow is more than up for the task but it feels to much like a rifle to be in an archery season IMO.

I have the Rhino sport magnum. I purchased it this spring "just for kicks". I saw it so I bought it then asked myself what the heck did I buy that for? I do enjoy shooting it but hind sight being what it is I should have spent the money on a compound bow and got into archery(like I wanted to in the beginning) Brick Wall,)

compound or crossbow

There may be many people that disagree with me but I feel your better off with a compound bow. There are a few people that shoot at my range with crossbows and though they may be fast out of the gate the lack endurance. At 30 yards they are slow and have alot of drop. If you ever get a chance while someone is shooting one, close your eyes when you here them shoot you will find you can almost side step the shot yourself at 30 yards. Now imagine a big muture buck that has 10 times the reaction speed you do. Try it once then you'll make your own decision.

I had a Horton and hunted with it when I lived in Ohio. Here in MO you can't use them BUT if they law passed tommorow that we could use them I would go out and buy another one. X-bows shoot just as fast as compund bows the big difference if any is the energy of the arrows/bolts. A longer heaver arrow will have more energy than a short bolt. That being said realize that Indians were killing deer with hickory bows and flint pointed arrows. And your right I don't agree with countrycharmer65. Shoot both thru a chrograph at 30 yds and you will see little diference.

One is just as good as the other. About half the states in the US allow crossbow hunting by any hunter during regular season. It should be a matter of choice for every individual hunter. It is a proven "tool" for taking game ethically.

We are forming a coalition in support of the use of crossbows in Louisiana for all hunters. We have received local, state, national and international support on this issue.

We are in support of ALL hunters and ALL means of taking game that is ethical. If you are supportive of this issue OR you live in another state that needs support on this issue, please feel free to contact me via private message on this forum.

we had a Tenpoint crossbow, well made but could never actually get it fine tuned plus they max you shoot with them is around 50 yards at the max... with the compound bows that me and my father have we practice at 70.. well he does and i can consistently shoot an 8 inch circle at 90 yards.. believe me or not, it is true, with a crossbow you couldnt shoot that far with the scope because there is no enough range in the scope to account for the arrow droppage and i founf compound bows are much better with accuracy, even though the crossbows are 300 lb pull or w/e i would prefer the compound over anything, i shoot bowtech tribute @ 80 lbs and i would compare it to the best crossbow made even better
