Hello to everyone out there. I've been looking for a hunting forum to get involved with. I'm still a novice at this, but am looking to harvest an elk one of these years. Much harder work that many people realize.

I've pulled cow tags the past two years in Colorado WMU 76 and again this year for third rifle season in the same Unit. I also hope to pull leftover cow licenses in WMU 79 for my 13 year old son and me for second rifle season.

Having not yet seen an animal during any of my previous hunts, is there any secret to locating these critters? I'll continue working north faced slopes and deep timber in good drainages. Aside from investing in pack mules/horses (not gonna happen), does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Cow Elkman

Big smile

Well I never hunted 76 but ive hunted 79 a lot seems that the elk winter in 79 so the later you can go the better from my experience in the unit. Of course the wether will dictate how the elk move so if we get good snows early it could force the elk to move into the unit.
