Colorado Unit 851 Bosque del Oso

I drew a bull tag for the muzzle loader hunt this year in unit 851. It took 8 preference points to draw. Is there anyone who has hunted this area and could give me some tips and starting points? I will be going on a scouting trip in August. I live just south of Durango Colorado.

The wife had a late season cow bunch of years ago. It is a pretty easy place to hunt. Climb a ridge and start glassing, that time of year the elk will need water and the river runs right through the property. On the wifes hunt we saw 32 bulls before we found a cow to shoot. Heard oil/gas stuff has increased a bunch since then.

Thank you for the info. I have google earthed the area and do see a lot of new roads down some of the ridges. If these guys are running in and out of there each day maybe the DOW needs to rethink this area as a managed trophy area.
