Colorado Unit 61 1st Rifle Season

I got lucky enough this year to draw a Unit 61 tag in Colorado! Looking for any input from anyone with experience in this unit! I'v been looking at the central part of the unit North of Nucla but have open ears. Show and tell some pictures of bulls taken there also if you would like. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.  Are

Welcome to the forum.

Are you able to get down there for some scoutting or not?  I just returned last week from a week down there and plan on getting back down there again to do some more.  I have a muzzle loader tag and a friend has a archery tag and we'll be hunting together.  We did find a few nice bulls and one real nice one.  They are in their batchelor groups right now so if you see one keep on looking and you will see some more.

I reall couldn't tell you about the area north of Nucla since we are on the south side of the unit.  Good luck on the hunt and come back and let us know how you did.

I do hope to make a few

I do hope to make a few scouting trips up there between now and the season. I actually might be headed up for a long weekend trip this week to do some looking. Hope I can see some good ones also! Thanks for the reply and goodluck to you also.

Welcome to the forum!  Between you and Critter, we expect to see a couple photos of 380"+ bulls come out of that unit, okay! Wink

Easier said than done.  The unit has a lot of 350 range bulls so it may hold a couple in the 380-400" range.

That would be ok with me! I

That would be ok with me! I did get to go on that scouting trip this past weekend and saw only a few elk, not as much as I would have hoped to. I did see a Muley that will be pushing 200 however.

my neighbor hunted it last

my neighbor hunted it last archery season and said he saw the biggest bull he has ever seen, a 8x8 that was pushing 400" but couldnt ever get into range because of the big herd that he had, too many eyes.
