Colorado Unit 6 last minute hunt, where to go?

Well, myself and a friend got some OTC cow tags and decided to go hunting this weekend for the first season in Unit 6 east of Walden, CO. I've never been up there before and don't know any good areas. I was hoping someone maybe able to point me in the right direction.
I've found a place on the map called Elk Mountain, seems promissing, but I'm not sure when the last time there was any elk there.
Any help would be great and would be more than I know now.
Thanks, Matt

There is a small town called Gould about 20 miles SE of Walden. before you come to Gould there is a KOA Camground behind the campground is Michigan Res. There is a ton of public land back there...I beleive it would be Bull Mountain. Hear alot that early seaon hunter see alot of elk back there. I habve hunted 171(across the hwy) and if the weather is still good so can the hunting be. Watch out for the moose and good luck. When ya coming out?

Thanks, I'll try there. I worked in that area several years ago and I would get lunch or dinner at the bar in Gould, great friendly place. I remember exactly where that KOA is. I think we will be coming out this Friday night or early Sat. I live in Denver and I have to pick up my buddy who lives by Horsetooth Res. in Ft Collins. I think we will only be staying until Sunday night, got to get back to work.
I think it supposed to be nice this weekend, no rain or snow, so hopefully I may have a chance.

Thanks for all of your input, good luck.
Matt

Well, it didn't go too good. We didn't even see anything but some mulies. We only went for Sat and Sun morning, so not very long. We did hear a lot of shots in the area. We stayed in the Colorado State Forest in the Michigan Resv. area.
It was nice, but I am not used to paying for camping. It was worth it though. We really liked the area and I think we may try to go to the same area next year, but hopefully all week during second season. I think this summer we will do some scouting up there and try to get prepared a little better. It sucks not seeing anything, but just getting out for a couple of days makes it all worth it. Good luck to everyone this year.

Matt,
Now you're talkin'. Pick an area that you are going to hunt, stick with it, learn how the animals behave in that geographical area and you will start to get your animals on a consistent basis. Too many people move from area to area trying to find the "easy" place to get their animal. I have found that the hunters that are consistently successful generally hunt the same area from year to year and know where the animals will be. Stick with that area and you will be successful. The Cameron Pass area is beautiful and there is plenty of game there.

I think that is going to be our plan, stick with it and scout it out a lot.
Thanks for the input guys, and hopefully I will have some better news this time next year.
Good luck to everyone.
