Any one Have any info for this area? Its in Pike national forest just west of I25 and Sedalia. I drew a 4th season tag for this unit. I have scouted it a few times and have seen numerous tracks and sign, just wondering if anyone else had any other info.

I shot a mule deer in unit 38 last year with the same idea, but hopefully it snows a but more this year than last in the high country to get them moving.

I've hunted 51 for years with mixed success. The deer population seems to have taken a nose dive probably due to the number of lions in the area. We used to hunt archery and muzzleloading in there and on one occassion, during the second rifle season.. A few deer stick around in the natiional forest, but by the time the 4th season rolls around, the snow depths higher up pretty much dictate that deer move onto lower areas and on many of the private areas where getting access is non-negotiable. If the snow gets going early on, a good many access roads get the lockdown.

Seriously?

Mule deer are where you find them. To be honest wtih you, I've seen most of the activity on private that late in the season. That can be some rough country depending where you go in at. Rampart is full fo dirt bikers abd weekend campers and it's really a pain in the keester during the early seaons and on the weekends. I'd go in from the south and head up through Shambala on Jackson Creek Road, but during the later rifle seasons it can be a little dicey.

Hey ya'll,
I live up there in 51 near the river, but this year will be my first time hunting it (and hunting period). I can attest to seeing only one massive non-typical in the last year, right on Hwy. 67 around private land. I've also seen a couple fork horns hangin' around the does. My folks saw a group of five boys right outside of Sedalia, again, near a lot of private land. Never seen any buck signs, but a lot of does around right now. I'll make sure to tell you if I get anything this year!
