Colorado Unit 41

This is going to be my first year hunting elk and really hunting ever. I have had the chance to go out deer hunting before with one of my friends 2 years ago but we didn't see squat. So I am going archery on this tag, unit 41 OTC Either Sex is the license. I was wondering if you guys could point me in a direction for elk. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum!  There

Welcome to the forum!  There is tons of useful information on here, especially if you are new to hunting.  As you come up with new questions, put them out there.

As far as Unit 41 goes, I have never hunted that unit, so I am of no use there.  Hopefully the right person will come across this post that can point you in the right direction.  If you have not already done so, be sure to study out the Division's website.  I believe the GMU Tip Sheets are still being updated, but that might be a good place to start when they get posted again.

Good luck with your hunt this year.

Turokman123,

Welcome to BGH ! If you have time to start doing some scouting I would suggest checking out the Kannah Creek Drainage area. You have to hike into the area, but it holds quite a few elk. If you have any specific questions let us know.

Good luck with your hunt this year and come back and let us know how it goes.

Hiked already

Went up to the Mesa last Friday-Saturday and on friday night I hiked down the north cliff of Kannah Creek and glassed the opposite cliff and only saw about 3 cow elk and what looked to be a small bull but I couldn't tell. Do you have any specific areas to check out? But that Saturday morning, after I hiked it again, we were driving to Lands End and saw about 60 elk, 200 yards off the road, and a couple mule deer. It was ridiculous. But if you have anywhere in particular you could point me, that would be great. Thanks

Good job on getting out and scouting ! Thumbs up Most of the areas under Indian Point is good for elk. Also don't overlook Whitewater Basin. Most guys drive rIght by all that country without even taking a peak in the area. One of the biggest bulls I have ever seen come from the Mesa came from the Whitewater Basin area (scoring 380") back in the late 80's Huh? ,but don't expect to find one that big up there now. It is tough to break the 300" mark up there.

Good luck with your scouting and let me know if you have anymore questions.
