Colorado Trophy Unit 61 -- 1st bear hunt -- help?

I'd have to say that if mine was that big I'd probably be getting a full body mount too. Do you know of anyone else getting bears in the unit this year? My brother and dad both also had tags but didn't fill. You and I are the only ones I know of that got bears... and we were both in the north. Have you ever hunted the unit before. This was our first year. It's a drag it will take so long to draw it again. But after seeing yours I know there is room for improvement though.

This was my first year hunting this unit and my first year ever hunting bear. It took me 5 points to draw. I think you are right when I had my bear sealed the wildlife officer said he only knew of one other bear killed on this unit. There was so much feed this year that the bears did not have to move anywere and unless you dropped down into the deep dark canyons you were lucky to see anything. I saw really small cinnamen bear on top and that was only other one i saw. So I feel really lucky getting the one I got.

I just got my bear skull officially measured and it ended up making all time Boone & Crockett at 21 2/16. Not bad for my first bear Big smile

You must be absolutely estatic. That is so awesome man. Do you know where this puts him in the colorado records. I'm sure it is right up there. Well in five years when we can both hopefully draw those tags again, maybe we'll both kill some more monster bears.

Congratulations.

Make sure you post pics of the skull and mount once they are done.

Wow both great bears! To reply on if there are many bears in unit 62. There are just as many bears in unit 62 as 61. I have taken 2 bears with radio collars in 62 and when I got the study information back on the bears it was amazing. The first one I killed in 1995 was a big boar squared 6'5" and had a 20 inch skull. He had traveled a 163 sq mile radius and from all the information I received on the bear study the boars travel back to were they were born in the fall and then hybernate within 5 miles.I have taken a total of 5 bears since 1995 in unit 62.My buddy killed a boar in 1996 that was 7'1" it also had a 20" skull, and this lady in our party killed her first bear this year, it was 7'6" and had a 20 3/16 inch skull. According to the study there are 1.2 bears fo every square mile on the Uncompaghre Plateau. Good luck and good hunting!
