Colorado Pref. Point help asap.

I tried to call the DNR, but telephones are busy in Colorado. I found mixed info. on website. I know I can buy a preference point for Elk for $25 (cost I think), but do I need to buy a license also. I only want to buy the point this year to use maybe next year.

Also, do I have to provide my hunter eduction requirements on-line as well. I think everything has to be done on-line or PostMarked as of today. Is this correct?

Also, does Colorado sell pref point for mulies? I think I read on this site that they do not.

I am under the gun, as the deadline is today! Thanks guys!!

Been so busy planning my first BGH this fall in WY, that I almost missed this for next year.

Do it all on line.  The point

Do it all on line.  The point will cost you the $25.00 + $10.00 for a habitat stamp, you do not need to buy a license.  That's what the $25.00 is for.  You will need to send in all of the money for the tag up front and then your refund will be minus the fees. You can also apply for a deer preference point using the preference point code for the deer of D-P-999-99-P  Where as the elk code is E-P-999-99-P

Thanks so much. A few more questions if I may.

What is the refund, $10 habitat stamp?

Do I need to supply hunter ed info in the on-line process.

Thanks again!

nope

No refund on the habitat stamp.  You have to submit the full cost of the license.  You will be refunded the fee, minus $3 for app fee and minus $25 for a preference point if you haven't bought a fishing license or any other license like that in the past year.  Same process for deer if I understand it correctly.

Point is you must remit the full amount ($554, plus $10 habitat stamp for elk, $334 for deer, total is $898, you will be refunded all but $66).

Uhh, I think.

You have to front the cost of

You have to front the cost of the tag, so for elk i think its around $550 and deer I'm not to sure i wanna say around $350, then after the draw they refund all the money minus the $25 for elk point and $25 for deer and $10 stamp. not sure about hunter safety info. Critter correct me if I'm wrong

hunter safety

Use the date your hunter safety card was issued if you don't have an identification number on it.  You can enter it online

So I have to "Loan" the state

So I have to "Loan" the state of Colorado nearly a grand in order to purchase a $25 PP plus stamp?

That's the way that it

That's the way that it works.  You need to try and apply for 4 or 5 different states out west here.  It isn't hard to have 5,000-10,000 dollars tied up in application fees and tags.  This year if I would of had to put all the money up front for Utah I would be in it for about $6,000 for one state alone.  The nice thing about Utah is that you only need to put the application fee up front.  They do require you to have a small game license at the time of the draw but if you work it right you can use the same license for 2 different years.

The joys of out of state hunting.

Welcome to big game hunting.  At least you didn't apply for a sheep or moose point

Im outta state also and just

Im outta state also and just finished my online app... last minute of course. A deer draw w/habitat stamp was ($333.00 -Non Res Deer APP Plus $10.00 Habitat stamp W/ License) $344.00

And The Elk Point was $354.00 instead of the $554.00 so when I called CDW the gal in the Brush office said not to worry the point is still the same its just less you have to pull out of pocket. Also you only have to purchase the Habitat stamp once in a 365 day period so buy it this year and fill your app out early next year.

I hope this helps
