Colorado points question

If applying for 54 GMU unit in Colorado and the Stats for that unit say you need 3pts for a non resident muzzle loader tag, does this mean there is no way you can get drawn if you have less than  3pts or is this just a average pts needed?

Thanks Karl

Odds are that you do need the

Odds are that you do need the 3 points.  Unless not all the tags go with those that have 3 points then they will draw those that have 2 points until all the tags have been issued.

On Edit:

I went back and looked at the satistics on the draws for unit 54 and while the either sex tags will take you 3 points you can put in for the cow tag as a second choice and draw that one for the muzzle loader hunt.

Thanks for the info, we will

Thanks for the info, we will probably put in for Archery or wait till next year. If I am going to drive that far I want a better chance and since we went there last time with 6 either sex tags and came home with one Bull and no cows, and with my luck there would be Bulls running every where.lol

Just curious, but don't all

Just curious, but don't all states, for the most part, have a percentage of tags that don't go based on points???

I know in California, say they give out 5 elk tags for an area (small elk herd), they will have 4 that are through points, and 1 will be everybody in.

So, technically speaking, there is a chance to draw with no points, but it's a very slim chance.  I think it's 10% of the tags, or something like that.  20 tags would have 2 in the general drawing, 30 would have 3, etc.

nope

I think Colorado is the only state left that doesn't set aside a small % of the tags in a random draw.  They only do it for the really high demand tags.

And even with those I believe

And even with those I believe you have to at least 5 points to qualify. I'm afraid that's going to push the point count higher on the top now that I've almost climbed my way up there.
