Colorado Moose

I have just received information that I was one of the lucky few to draw a 2002 Unit 6 Moose Tag. I have lived in hunted in Colorado for 10 years but have no knowledge of moose hunting in Unit 6. Has any one out there hunted or know someone who has hunted this unit? I'm starting to plan some scouting trips to familiarize myself with the area and hopefully locate some moose. Are there any good areas to knock on doors for private access? Any info, please help?

Colorado Moose

In Colorado you can contact most rural chambers of commerce and they will direct you to a 'wildlife info' person that can help with your questions. I would start by contacting someone in Walden, then go from there. You shouldn't have any trouble finding public land to hunt in that area.

I know one person that hunted that area successfully last year for moose, I would be happy to pass his name/phone number via private email. He has some good info/tips.

Good luck! Post again and let us know what you find out, and of course we want to hear about your moose!

Wait, are the results out earlier than normal this year?  Or is Moose always posted early?

good luck getting a moose down!  We're all jealous...

Nevermind, I just found the page and answered my own question...senior moment.

it seems like the town of meeker, co is in the center of your unit. I don't know anybody that lives there, or has hunted moose in the area, but i would start with the national forest just a few miles NE of meeker. there looks like some good areas in there. you can always stop in at diners and coffe shops and gas stations and ask the locals. if you're friendly and p[leasant, most people are in return.

welcome to BGH!

Meeker is a long ways away

Meeker is a long ways away from unit 6.  Perhaps you were thinking Walden

I just looked this post was resurrected from 2002 and the original poster quite possibly has shot his moose and it has long been eaten.  Now he is on his second go around on applications for moose.  Whistling

dear lord. i noticed it said

dear lord. i noticed it said may 12th, but i never did notice the date. if i weren't going bald i'd say i was going blonde! Huh?

too bad, i saw the post and though, "oh man, that's a great tag!" shiras moose hunting has got to be tons of fun. i used to see them all of the time near Pahaska Tepee, WY. one day i woke up at the Pahaska lodge and there two young bulls sparring outside of my room. i opened the door and got a pretty cool picture of it.

ever since then, i've wanted to try to get a moose tag!

Those old date posts have a way of sneaking up on you in these less frequented posted in categories

That is a great picture though.  That must have really been something to see up close to you liek that.

Thanks for sharing it with us!
