Supply and demand

More and more people are putting in for the draw with fewer and fewer deer licenses.  They go quickly.  In 2007 there were 128,000 deer licenses and 165,000 applicants, with 40,000 putting in for a point first and 41,000 leftovers.  This year, there were 79,000 deer licenses, 170,000  applicants, 51,000 putting in for a point on their first choice and just 8,000 leftovers.  Add in the better education about the leftover draw and the fact that there are lot more people who now use it due to the wider spread of tag quota to applicants and you'd be wise to not count on leftovers for the near future.  I would expect an increase in tags over the next few years with these mild winters really helping the deer population if that makes you feel any better.

Yep, it is now to the point

Yep, it is now to the point with the permits that if you want one you had better put in for it on your application and not wait for the left overs. I haven't done any digging yet since I have my first choice but the area that I usually pick up and has been on the left over list for years is not there this year and from looking at the list a lot of the other areas are not on it either. I believe that the years of picking up a left over permit over the counter on a first come first served are just about behind us

If that

is the case I just plain and simple shot myself in the foot!!! Had my leftover letter and just assummed there would be some left like in years past! I could only go a couple of days because of my Elk season cranks up during that period. Guess I will look out East!! What a FOOL!!!

My plans for deer have

My plans for deer have changed too. I can hunt my unit every other year for a buck, and the odd year I have to take a point and hunt private land for a doe.

Elk tags are still easy to get.

another one

I got my 1st rifle Pronghorn and 4th rifle cow Elk tag in the drawing.  But I'll be going to get another cow tag for 1st rifle.  Looks like there are a plenty leftover in the unit I want for that.

I

can't believe there are no late season antelope pp doe tags for my regular unit. There's been tons for the past few years. No Dec. goat hunting for me this year.

You hunt 120 for pronghorn don't you?  Do you ever get word on any late season damage claim tags? I know they often have them in some units.

I wish the cdow would offer late season tags for many other units that have wintering pronghorn. I keep my eye on a couple areas that have lot's of wintering goats yet they never offer a late season option.

No

Western, that's not my unit. Really surprising as up until this year you could get left over doe tags for the regular season and for the late pp season as well. I might as well start bow hunting goats as well since you can get those over the counter. I do have an antelope buck rifle tag though. As for deer wanted to see about getting my nephew a left over doe tag but none in our hunting areas.
