Colorado GMUs 74,75

The success rate on the ground looks very high. Is there anyone out there that has hunted these units yet or getting ready to? If so share some stories and pictures and of course be as general as you need to be. Also if you are in Durango don't forget to check out and maybe contribute to the  Gardenswartz bragging book.

I've hunted 74 all but 2 or 3

I've hunted 74 all but 2 or 3 years since 1993.  I've taken my share of elk there.

I'm interested in your source for the high success rate.  There are a fair amount of elk but I have found them to be distributed over large area and difficult terrain.  Most of my experience has been rifle hunts in the later seasons.  I've seen Colorado overall success tend to be around 25% (fluctuates with weather) with unit 74 tending to be 4% or 5% below the statewide average.

I only have a couple of photos loaded on my web host at the moment.

These are some photos of a cow I shot that went a short distance and died on the edge of a big cliff in Unit 74.

It was a difficult location to field dress an elk.  Anything that fell over the edge would take a couple of seconds before it hit the ground below.  Circulatory fluid would freeze into ice on the rock further complicating the effort to quarter the animal.

Your right about the success rates, on average these two units are in the 18 to 19% range. But this year archery and muzzleloading was higher based on my unofficial survey of hunters coming in and out. It would appear to be a 30 to 35% season. Also nice pictures that was a close one.
