Colorado GMU 55 3rd season rifle hunt

I am headed to the Crested Butte, Colorado area for the Nov 2nd-10th 3rd season elk hunt with my family. My oldest daughter who is 13 yrs old will be hunting with me. While Jess and I hunt my wife will be staying with our youngest child at camp (I owe her big!. We live in SW Arkansas and have lots of deer, and quite honestly we put our legal limit in the freezer "most" every year. But that is because I live here and I know where and how to find deer. But I know nothing at all about elk. And really I have never even seen the place that we will be hunting. I am hoping to get there at least a couple of days early to learn as much as I can before season opens. Where should we go, where should we avoid? I don't expect anyone to give up their "honey hole", but I would greatly appreciate any good advice that could be offered. While I would love for Jess or myself to kill a big bull, A legal bull will make me just as happy especially if it is close enough for Jess to take. She is a bad case of cancer to whitetails!
I thank you in advance for any insight that could be shared with me. We are all looking forward to this hunt. Again many thanks - Indian Outlaw

Camp?

Where are you setting up camp?  I have hunted that gmu for the past 5 years and hopefully can help you get that elk you are looking for.

You will

be South of me and hunting later!!! Weather is fickle at best! Had forecast of 70 and it snowed 15 inches. Scared the out of staters to low ground! It was dusty again in 3 days with no sign of snow. Would be pushing it where I hunt in 3rd!! I have done it and never seen another hunter!!! Did see critters though!!! Just gets real tough with weather up high!!! I have never been South to Cement Crk. Odds are not that great. Scenery and overall hunt keeps me homesteaded where I go!!!! P.M. me if you think I can help you at all!!

Send me a private message and I will share what I know.  Not too far off of the 135 south of where you plan to hunt.
