Yes it is and there's plenty of public land, but it's tough hunting even though there's a lot of elk.
Ditto. The road leading to the Rainbow Lakes area seems to be the main thoroghfare and it gets awfully congested. The elk are in there, but it is rougher than a cobb. Get back in there and hunt high if the weaher permits you to do so. Soap & Coal Basins are decent areas to start, but get alot of activity from outfitter camps.
From the books that I have read, there is a lot of importance in knowing every nook and cranny of your hunting territory as well as the animal that you are hunting. So scouting as much as possible, just walking the land, will give you a good idea of what's around the corner or what's on the other side of a hill. Which can be very beneficial.
