I'm curious to know what people think of Colorado GMUs 79, 80, 81 or 82 as possible left over limited draw candidates for a cow tag during 4 rifle season. Have people had much success in these units in the past? Thanks!
I don't like 79 at all, and am not very high on 80.
It would be 81 or 82 for me. But they are pretty different types of units, your access in 81 is probably better, less mid and low elevation private refuges, very good success rates in both areas, better bulls in 82, but not bad in 80 or 81 either.
One of the big kickers here is the difficulty of the land in 82. Unless you were planning a 4th backcountry hunt, I'd go with 81
One of the things I struggle with when afield is keeping my rifle clean and in good working order. Small amounts of dust and dirt collect moisture; moisture can freeze rendering your action immovable when you need it most. I have seen this happen on multiple occasions, and over time, I’ve learned the cause and how to prevent this from happening.
The first thing that you need to avoid before going afield is leaving excess oil on the gun. Oil will trap dirt and sand in all the wrong places....
