There will be three of us with elk tags for the first season in these units. Our tags are for any of these units and I was wondering where the best area to try and get an elk is in this area? Also what kind of pressure is there, I would like to find an area with not alot of pressure. One problem is that my dad is 70 and his knees are getting bad so he can't walk to far, but the other two of us can walk. I have hunted in unit 33 the last 2 years and there was alot of pressure last year, it might of been from the weather. I am currently living in Hayden so I have time to check areas out if I know where to go.

just wandering but how exactly did you draw so many diferent units?

I've been hunting unit 33 since i was young and its a great unit with moderate pressure. the higher you go the less people there are. It's been about 3 years since i have hunted there though.

please explain how you aquired a tag for all of these units during first limited season ...

It surprised me too but it is in the book, multiple units for the first season.

If you look in the Big Game Regulations book it states that first season is for all those units. When I applied I actually had to put hunt code down for unit 011 but it is good for all those units.

Does anyone know how the hunting is in unit 34?

Of those units, 34 would be higher on my list of priorities, so would 25 and 26. 34 receives the least amount of pressure of all those units(1 hunter per sq mile of public), 25 and 26 are about even at 1.5 per square mile, 11 and 33 at 2.5, 231 and 211 in the 3.5 hunters per sq mile of public land, 24 at 4ish, 23 at 5 and 12 at 11 per sq mi.

ExBio is correct. Unit 12 gets the living crap pounded out of it. It does have some decent stats, but once the archery hunters and the muzzleloaders get in there and push the animals around, finding anything besides cows and an occassional raghorn is a tough. 231 is pretty much the same way, only worse. It's a general area for archery and muzzleloaders, so it generates a whole bunch of attention. Get back in there as far as you're willing to pack an animal out and add a couple of miles to that; no doubt you'll have lots of company.
