Colorado Draw

I just applied for a Colorado Preference Point. I plan to build up some in order to put in for a good elk hunt in a few years. Big smile Anyone do the same?

I will get a point this year

I will get a point this year but doubt I will let it build past 1 anymore. I finished my 18 year run last year and doubt I'll start it again.

I guess we'll see though.

I did

I put in for my first CO elk point with some 1st season rifle hunts as my 2nd and 3rd choice.  I am thinking that when I retire I could rent a house in Utah one year then CO the next to cash in points as a Resident.    As a NR and point creep I doubt I could ever cash in those points in the quality units each state has.

Hunter25, did you put in for Oryx this year?

Good Luck to everyone on the draw and your hunt.

Jimmy

Nope, I debated till the last

Nope, I debated till the last minute and then decided against it. The cost is just too much when you add it all up now. Even if I was lucky enought to draw I would still have to spend a bunch more. Possibly even an outfitter consedering the shortness of the hunt. Even without that it could go over 3k quickly. I can do a couple of public land hunts per year with my dad for that much money and have just as much fun.

Maybe in the future if funds allow but not this year.

Preference Point

Not Colorado but I did put in for a preference point.

This point thing, no matter the state, seems to be a cash cow for the G&F agencies. I put in for an elk preference point and will probably do that until I retire. My plan is to put in for elk, in the draw, once I retire. I'll have a lot of opportunities to be drawn as I have a long time until I retire and want to do a real "Trophy Hunt" as my retirement present to myself. In the meantime I'll try and hunt either other animals or other states.

It amazes me that people with 9+ preference points aren't getting drawn. Maybe by the time I retire the hunter pool will have either decreased some or I'll have enough points and money to be able to afford a real outfitted hunt.

Oryx

I was also considering putting in for Oryx in NM but decided against it at the last minute. The fee its way too high for a NonRes and the population numbers are not as good as they used to be.

I did put in for another exotic (Barbary Sheep). We'll see how that goes.
