A non resident can do it themselves for under $2000,I know an outfitter that will do an unguided hunt camp in the Bob Marshall or Scapegoat wilderness's of MT for $1200,and you can shoot a brow tine bull during the rut. Thumbs up

I know that in Wyoming it is illegal to hunt in a wilderness area without a guide. What about Montana and Idaho?

apparently you Montana boys are behind times.................thats the going rate for a cow elk hunt here in Colorado and they fill them up every year.
I would not hunt the public wilderness areas of Montana if it was the last place on earth..........why??? It is all timber, thick timber and very small parks if any for the elk to feed in. The pack -in is 10-20 miles in and it all winds down to a glorfied trail ride on a horse. Sure, there is some elk................but they are few and far between.
