Hello I'm from texas, and me and a few buddies are trying to plan a archery elk hunting trip next september. What do you think about backpacking in to the south san juan wilderness area in wmu 78 or 81? We were thinking about the raybaild trail head or maybe the navaho trail head? Are these a descent place to start and hike in? We are just looking for the best area for otc archery elk. Not looking for trophies just want to kill a legal bull. We also understand that taking a bull willl take lots of work. Backpacking miles is not a problem. Any help would be appreciated. Areas, what elevation to be looking around mid september. We will be hunting for about 7 days.
