Resident and thank you!! I was able to talk to the biologist out there today. Says it's a 28/100 ratio and I should stand a reasonable chance at a 160-170 class buck. 3rd season

Unit 21 is agreat choice. I think the biologist is being modest, alot of great bucks come from 21. The main thing is get out there and do some long distance scouting. A great buck was taken in 08 archery season up there scoring 227, I think you have a great chance at taking a 180 or even a 190. Good luck and good hunting!

Here is a buck that was right on the line between unit 21 and unit 30 just before 2008 archery season.

I would definitely punch his ticket if I had a chance. The other cool thing is there were 11 other bucks in the same basin with this buck, but he was the most unique.

I do believe that I would have to agree with that. It would'nt take me long at all to pull the string on this buck, or pull the trigger for that matter. He is a bit odd, but just more the reason to put him on the wall.

Hunt4duck- As far as hunting 21, I think you would be making a very good choice, being that you have any choice of units at your disposal. This is a Bookcliffs unit right? I have a friend that hunted the Bookcliffs last year. He was'nt able to drop a buck, he saw a few, but nothing he wanted to take, I don't blame him, having a 21 tag and all. But DOW told him that the Bookcliffs had a huge die off the winter before. He didnt know, otherwise he would have changed his plan I guess. I dont know. I wasnt there. But it might be worth checking on, especially if your planning on hunting that area.

I'd hit unit 21 during the 4th season. Was up there last year with some friends that had elk tags and saw numerous big bucks. Just a couple of more points and I'll hit that area.

Excellent to hear this confiddence in the unit. I'm not looking to make the cover of Muley Crazy, just would like a nice 170 class with a sticker if possible, but I'll see what around in the adjacent units higher country ahead of time and go from there.. DOW said there wasn't much winter kill in 07.

According to the meat lockers in Craig, the winter kill must have been alot worse than what the DOW say it originally was; guess the number of animals brought in was down about 35%. This is the story i got from a buddy of mine that was up there for elk.
