CO velvet muley down

Second to last day of my hunt, had to take him down. Not the biggest buck of the week but he is my largest muley with a bow to date... Colorado archery buck taken on Sep 1, 2011.  He has 14in G2s and scores 126, not bad for a 3 point.  Loveing the velvet.

Very, very nice!  That's one

Very, very nice!  That's one heck of a buck!  Congrats!

Love the velvet too.  I hear it's kind of tricky to keep though, correct?  don't they inject it with something to keep it attached during the taxidermy process?  I might be off here, just thought I heard something about that.

the velvet is beautiful

Wow! What a buck. I saw a few of those guys this weekend too!  Can't wait til I have my muzzletag in a few weeks to chase them myself.

Are you planning on having him mounted?  Can you do a european mount when your critter is still in velvet?

Congratulations on a great

Congratulations on a great buck. That's the first one I've actually seen down so far this year. In my opinion that's a great buck by any standard and getting him with a bow makes it even better.

If I remember correctly they inject them with formeldahyde but it needs to be done fairly quickly to keep them from shrinking up. I've never gotten one before and will need to either get an early high country tag or figure out how to get back into archery to make it happen. Even in muzzle season it's usually gone or well peeled off if you get one.

Looks like a real good muley

Looks like a real good muley to me.  CONGRATS!!  I would shoot him with bow or rifle, but definetly a nice trophy with a bow.  Definetly worth a wall mount.

I know, I know... I messed up

I know, I know... I messed up a stalk on a big one so I changed gear and shot the next buck I saw...  Matt has him now, its paid for and should be done next week.

That is a nice looking buck!

That is a nice looking buck!  The score doesn't do that buck justice at all.  Congrats!

Velvet Buck

Nice buck and being in velvet is even a bigger trophy. Never cared much on what the point score was as long as it was a memorable and fun hunt. My son got a fair sized forky in velvet a few years back in ML season and did a European mount. It looks great and the velvet is still on the antlers just fine.

I agree completely. I live

I agree completely. I live near the Kansas City Cabelas store and they have a big mule deer exhibit. you see bucks with higher scores but smaller antlers next to huge bucks with low scores.

some of those "low" scoring bucks, I would take over the "record" bucks every day of the week.

congrats on a sweet and unique trophy!
