CO units 28 and 37
I have been hunting deer and elk in these 2 units for years, primarily deer but for the last 2 years I have drawn elk tags and chased them about as well. The areas I have hunted have been North of Silverthorne along Highway 9 and the surrounding peaks. During my first two scouting trips to the top of Ute and Ptarmigan peaks have shown less animal activity than in past years so I am looking to broaden my scouting. Any suggestions on drainages that I should look into. I pack in around 2-3 miles and set a base camp there, then usually hike up to 5 miles further from my base looking for animals. My tags are for 2nd season rifle, I already drew the cow and buck, Bull is OTC and I am hoping to pick up a left over Doe as well. Think

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can't remember where Ute Peak

Can't remember where Ute Peak is, but I know where Ute Pass is offhand (but we have lots of Ute named places).  Have you been further down the Williams Fork?  South, Middle or North Fork?

Looks to me like there's still plenty of elk in the Williams Fork Country

Agreed

I happened to be in the area over the weekend and took a stroll down South Fork, glassing up into the draws and did manage to see a couple of good sized groups of cows. Didn't spot any bulls, but I am sure they can be found. This was the first time I had been in the south fork area. Definately worth looking into further. Hopefully the steep slopes will keep out most of the hunters.

Ex - Where were you seeing them?

Those pics in the mountain

Those pics in the mountain goat scouting thread were from various North Fork Drainages.  Middle Fork is good too though.
