CO Unit 75 questions

I've been enjoying myself on our wonderful 110 degree afternoons pouring over maps for our Fall CO hunt. My brother and I will have 1 bull and 1 cow tag for the 3rd rifle season.

Are there any decent places to camp with a travel trailer off CR250 or FR682 before the road gets too rough?
Are we better off just tent camping for this one?
Is FR682 generally passable for a Chevy2500 4x4? The map calls it "improved light duty gravel", but I hate to trust possibly dated information.
Can someone give me exact UTM coordinates to the elk?

Just kidding on the last one, thanks in advance for any help on the access questions. It's an interesting new challenge hunting elk with so much more elevation and weather to contend with. I'm looking forward to this way more than my AZ cow hunt.

There are campgrounds in the area of CR250 and Hwy 550 where you are thinking that I have seen campers in. Missionary Ridge road, FR 682, will also have places to park a trailer and more places to put up a tent. FR 682 is a typical FS gravel road up to Henderson lake or towards Burnt timber. It starts to get rougher after Henderson. In April, a guy was asking about hunting in unit 75. Do a search for CO Wilderness Unit 75 Archery elk. It's a good area. it get pressure but you can still find places to get away form it. One thing is for certain, it wont be 110 up there hunting.

I will have to check my GPS for the coordinates to the elk. Can you convert from MGRS?

bailer, I don't know if this will help, but I scouted the wilderness area around where u r talking about the end of July. We went in by the Lime Mesa trail head. Didn't see a lot of elk at first, too many domestic sheep(over 500) where we were-didn't know u could graze sheep in the wilderness? Found some elk on the other side of the ridge toward Needle cr. Believe the sheep forced them 2 move. We stayed in the wilderness, didn't scout much of the lower elevation-Tank cr and Grasshopper cr looked promissing from up top(2-3 miles from tr head). Ditto-centennial's comment-gets rough above Henderson lake. But that is what I was looking for 2 get away from the crowds.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks for the report! I bet that was a nice backpack trip. If the snowfall is light we might head up that way, we're prepared to backpack if necessary.
