CO Unit 67

Hey all. For the first time ever, I will be hunting unit 67 during the first rifle season. We are going with an outfitter into the La Garita Wilderness. Have any of you done this before? What can I expect in terms of crouds and numbers of elk? Thanks to all.

That's a very good limited tag, there won't be many folks to compete with. As far as elk numbers go, units 66 and 67 rank a little below average at around 2.5/sq mile, but the sex ratio is very good.

Yes I agree this a very well rounded unit. I have hunted it from 2nd season to late season down low. All i can say is don't get too far from the San Luis Peak. Especially for the first season. There are three draw runoffs in there that have always been full of critters. I am sure if you are with an outfitter they know the area better than me but that whole wilderness area is below average on hunters and pretty fair on elk numbers. Good luck!
