CO Point Inflation

I have been lazy and not really analyzed the elk draw stats the last couple of years. Has anybody else put in some effort and really dug into the stats? Would you be willing to post a few general comments about how the point inflation is looking for some of the top tags like Units 2, 201, 10, 61, 851, etc.? Just wondering...but not enough to scroll through the summaries.

Just taking a quick look at

Just taking a quick look at them here is what I came up with:

unit 2; 18 pts for either sex last two years

unit 10; 16 pts in 2012 and 15 in 2013 for either sex

unit 201; 20 pts for either sex both years

unit 61; 10 for 1st season, 6 for 2nd and 3rd, and 7 for 4th in 2012.  Then for 2013 it was 11,7,7,7.

I figure that I am done point chasing and am going to cash in my 17 elk points on a muzzle loader tag in 61 this year, last year it took 14 points so I should be a shoe in.

If you do that, we will expect nothing less than a 380 class bull..... Wink

You're setting my expectations a little high aren't you?

My last big bull took 9 years to draw and I said that I wasn't going to settle on anything less than 350 and the one that I shot went 343.  So I guess that after waiting for 17 years this one can be close to 380 as long as the elk cooperate.

Critter does cashing in your points like that ad to the point creep? meaning when you cash your points in for a unit that requires less points than you have?

I doubt it.  I don't know of many hunters that have a excessive amount of points that put in for a lesser hunt.  Most will only collect points until they have enough to draw the tag that they are after.  However my tag will knock one hunter out of the tag draw that might only have 14 points if there are not enough tags to draw everyone with 14 points and me with my 17.  From what I have seen next year the points required should be the same.  Then again it all depends on how many tags the DOW decides to let out also.  They could drop the number of tags from last year or increase them.  Both would affect the point creep.
