HEY IM NEW TO THIS FORUM AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY HAS ANY INFO ON THE ELK IN JANUARY IN GMU 85 IN COLORADO. WE HAVE TO COW TAGS ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Spanish Peaks area or Trinchera Peak are public land. They hold elk but it is rough country.

I know that some of the ranches West of Trinidad are great hunting and charge big money for hunts. If it were me I would try to find some public land in the vicinity of those ranches.

YEA I HUNTED IN THE SPANISH PEAKS AREA 2ND SEASON THIS YEAR AND IVE BEEN UP TO TRINCHERA PEAK BUT THATS IN THE SUMMER. I FIGURE THE ELK WILL BE DOWN LOW DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR
